2024 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

While it was happening, it seemed like the 2024 vintage was going to produce wines that were somewhat similar to the 2016 vintage--fairly ripe, but energetic and juicy. Crowd pleasers. For Chardonnay, at least, that turned out not to be the case. My 2024 Chardonnay is less showy and "fruity" than I thought it would be. It's taut, savory, nervy. There are notes of beeswax, marzipan and mineral and it takes time to open up. In my many years in the business I've found that the vintages where the wines are hesitant to show themselves when young often age beautifully. This might be one of them.
