2023 is the 20th vintage of The Shop. Although the winemaking approach has evolved during this time, the soul of the wine remains constant: honest unfussy wine for real people. From the beginning it has been dedicated to the unsung heroes of the wine business, the men and women who do the hands on work in the field and the cellar. 2023 was a good year. In Carneros, the wines combine richness and ripeness with just enough tension and freshness to keep them from being heavy. Those 20 year old vines are really coming into their own. In each of the past five years, The Shop has been one of my most consistently satisfying wines. Shipping these days is complicated. I've been shipping most of my orders via temperature controlled trucks, which for a variety of reasons slows things down. But better safe than sorry!
