Many of us are still playing "catch up" after the long year+ of the pandemic shutdown. Like many small producers I am dependent upon restaurants to sell a significant portion of my wine, and losing that channel was tough--although not as tough as being part of that channel. I marvel at the resilience of those in the restaurant business who managed somehow to keep afloat during the pandemic. My 2016 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is ready to drink now. I've cellared it for you! A little time in bottle has added some secondary notes to the lively fruit that is the hallmark of the 2016 vintage making it a terrific food wine. I've been exploring different ways of raising my wines, and my Chardonnay in particular, since the mid 2010s. This wine split time between concrete and barrel during elevage, rather than being a blend of wine aged in both separately. Although it has gained a few toasty notes with time in bottle, it saw no new oak during its time in the cellar. And as always, I took a "do nothing" approach during the making of this wine, preferring to let it do its thing, rather than steer it towards a predetermined goal. $280 for a case of 12 bottles.
