Big Sur Food and Wine

Big Sur Food and Wine

The Big Sur Food and Wine Festival is more than just a wine event. It is a gathering of friends. The Big Sur community is such pleasant company that I never pass up the chance to go. I have even been known to take a detour from my rounds looking at vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands just to go watch whales for a while, say hello to a few friends there and refresh my spirit with some sea air before driving back home.

Compared to other wine festivals, BSF&W, as the locals call it, is low key, in the most charming way possible. One of my favorite events is the hike--called Hiking With Stemware--which I have done before and will be doing again this year. It involves a not very difficult hike, with a toast to start it off and a lovely lunch (and more wine, naturally) afterwards. This year, the Chappellet family will be hosting and I will be along to pour a couple of wines before and after the hike, and enjoy the walk with the attendees. In addition I'll show some wines at the Pinot Walkabout, held at the fabulous Post Ranch Inn, and I'll be at the "Return to the Big Sur Jazz Festival," a dinner--actually, more of a party--held at the Henry Miller Memorial Library. Details for all of this and more can be found at the BSF&W website--BigSurFoodAndWine.org.
