2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

SOLD OUT!

With greater risk comes greater reward. I am drawn to the difficult, and the Sonoma Coast qualifies as a risky, difficult place to grow grapes. Sometimes, perhaps even most of the time, the results are exhilarating. Other times, well, you take your lumps. Now I would say that this wine is actually pretty darn good. Good richness and extract, savory notes mixed in with more primary fruit notes. Medium bodied. Ripe but still lively. Normally if there is a wine in the cellar that doesn’t make the cut, it’s an easy decision to sell it off unbottled or blend it into something cheaper. But once in a while there’s a wine that is too good to sell off, but not quite good enough for the top tier. That’s what this one is. The good news is that it’s a relative bargain--$25/bottle, my least expensive Pinot Noir. The bad news is that there are only 95 cases.
